What Is Nesa+? A Technical Advantage for Travelers

Updated over a week ago

Nesa+ is a new category of eSIM plans from Nesa Mobile designed to improve connectivity, speed, and access to certain websites and apps by routing your internet traffic through Singapore-based IPs — rather than the default locations like Hong Kong used in many standard plans.

Why IP Routing Matters

When you connect to the internet using an international eSIM, your data doesn’t always exit from the country you’re physically in. Instead, traffic is routed through what’s called a breakout point — the country where the provider’s servers are located.

In many standard eSIM plans for Asia, this breakout happens in Hong Kong. While reliable for general use, this can result in:

• Restricted access to certain services (e.g., ChatGPT, some streaming platforms, social media apps)

• Higher latency to services hosted outside the region

• Slower speeds during periods of high congestion

The Nesa+ Advantage: Singapore-Based IP Routing

Nesa+ routes your traffic through Singapore instead of Hong Kong. This change in breakout location brings several key benefits:

• Improved access to geo-restricted services: A Singapore IP may allow access to content and websites that are blocked for users appearing to connect from Hong Kong.

• Faster, more stable connection: Singapore has better international peering and infrastructure, often resulting in lower latency and faster speeds, especially within Southeast Asia.

• Higher-quality carrier access: In some regions, Nesa+ plans are tied to better-performing networks or premium routing paths.

Important Note on Limitations

While Nesa+ improves your IP location by routing through Singapore, some apps and platforms can still detect your actual physical location using additional methods beyond your IP address.

For example, TikTok can use network signals, device region settings, GPS, and SIM information to determine your location. If you’re in a country where the app is restricted — such as China — TikTok may still block access, even if your IP appears to be from Singapore.

So while Nesa+ increases the chance of accessing restricted content, it’s not a guarantee, and it is not a VPN. It doesn’t provide full anonymity or let you manually select countries.

Should You Use Nesa+?

If you’re visiting a region where some websites or services are harder to access, or you’re simply looking for better speed and routing, Nesa+ is a smart upgrade. It works just like any other Nesa Mobile eSIM — no extra configuration needed — but with enhanced backend performance and improved content accessibility.
